The Berkman has turned into an “apartment-hotel.” Supporters of the project were quite clear they wanted an apartment building, not a hotel, because of traffic concerns.
In the Post-Bulletin (link below), Minneapolis-based developer Alatus claims “the hotel hasn’t been discussed much, the concept has always been part of the Berkman planning.” Why wasn’t it “discussed much”? Why was this not shared far more explicitly with the Folwell residents, if it was at all? Clearly the outcry would have been far greater. And if it had been widely known, why is it being reported as such a big story now? My opponent was a strong advocate for this project. What did he know about the hotel component and when did he know it? One thing I promise you, if I know critical information about a development, so will you. It’s a matter of trust and ethics.
